Cankarjev dom, Film Programme organises various film events which take place in its multi-purpose halls, primarily the Linhart Hall (616 seats) and the smaller Kosovel Hall (220 seats). Since 1989 it hosts the annual Ljubljana International Film Festival (LIFFe) (November), since 1998 the annual International Documentary Film Festival (March), and since 2007 it co-hosts the International Mountain Film Festival Domžale. Through its film programme, Cankarjev dom also works as an independent, non-commercial distributor, and exhibitor.

Each year Cankarjev dom buys the theatrical rights for several art films that are premièred at (LIFFe) and are later screened in its own halls or in other independent art cinemas around Slovenia. Cankarjev dom is also a founding member of the Art Cinema Network.

Cankarjev dom also has also a film education programme. Each year it offers a selection of art films that are presented to a young audience through a lecture held by film scholars or professionals.

International cooperation

Cankarjev dom has been a member of the International Federation of Film Producers' Associations (Fédération internationale des associations de producteurs de films, FIAPF) since 1992 and of the Co-ordination Européen des festivals de cinema (CEFC) since 1998. Cankarjev dom is also a member of the Europa Cinemas network.
