The successor of the Fairy Tale Marathon, which was conceived by writer and storyteller Anja Štefan and held for the first time in 1998, the Storytelling Festival Fairy Tales Today hosts a wide array of Slovene and foreign storytellers who deliver tales hailing from the folklore of various peoples and regions. In doing so, they forefront the ancestral oral tradition and foster the art of narration.

The festival, organised by Cankarjev dom and the Slovene Ethnographic Museum, encompasses storytelling performances for children, storytelling evenings for adults, an open stage which provides an exciting opportunity to anyone wanting to try themselves at storytelling, and accompanying events, which are a joint effort of Kinodvor Cinema, Pripovedovalski variete Cultural Association, the National and University Library, and the Global Institute Slovenia – an institute for global learning and development projects.
