Libris Bookshops offer not only a wide range of high-quality books, but also information on literature. In co-operation with the Koper branch of the Slavonic Languages Society of Slovenia, the bookstore regularly organises literary events. It functions as an important cultural centre and in the past decade, many Slovene and international authors have been its guests.
A special task of the Libris bookshops is to promote the literature of the Slovene Istria region. They offer more than 25,000 book titles, comprising mostly non-commercial literature and humanities books. In collaboration with the University of Primorska and other educational institutions, they also offer books for youth and students. Libris recently received the Schwentner Award for achievements in the field of publishing.
The Libris company was established in 1992 following the closure of Partizanska knjiga bookstore in Prešeren Square, Koper-Capodistria. Libris Bookshop in Piran-Pirano opened in 1997 and the Antiquariat Libris in Koper-Capodistria in 2000. The latter is located not far from the main Libris Koper bookshop and also functions as a venue for various events. In 2004 a new bookshop opened in the old town of Izola-Isola.
