A highly renowned and genre-unbound Slovene–German music label, Glitterbeat Records is mainly focusing on music from the Global South. Most of its protégés are thus coming from Africa, though Glitterbeat's catalogue also features music from the Americas, Europe, and Asia. It was given numerous awards and was lauded as the best 'world music' label in the world by Womex (the World Music Expo) for four years in a row, between 2014 and 2017.

The label was founded in 2013 by Chris Eckman, an American musician living in Ljubljana, where Glitterbeat has its headquarters.

Publishing programme

Many of the musicians whose work was released by Glitterbeat come from North Africa (especially Mali), the most prominent of them being artists and bands such as Tamikrest, Bombino, Bassekou Kouyaté, Aziza Brahim and Noura Mint Seymali. However, Glitterbeat's range also spans the Turkish rock sensation Gaye Su Akyol, the Brasilian 'afrobeat' orchestra Bixiga 70, the Bosnian sevdah singer Damir Imamović, the UK dub artist Dennis Bowell, and the American trumpet player and composer Jon Hassel.

In 2017 Glitterbeat set up a sub-label called Tak:til. Among its first releases was one by the Slovene trio Širom (see the group's tourings in the C.si Events abroad database).
