International programme
The Dance Programme of the Public Fund for Cultural Activities organises a traditional competition of young dance performers called Opus 1. Every year a topic for a short dance piece is announced and the jury selects the competitors on the basis of the received videos. The prizes are awarded for the best short dance piece, the best concept and the best dance performance. After 16 successful national competitions, in the year 2009 the competition was opened to international participants. The 4rd International Competition of Young Dance Performers OPUS 1 – short dance piece 2012 with a topic Dance and Literature was held at the Slovene People’s Theatre (SLG) Celje.
In March 2011 the first international Conference on Dance Medicine, which was conceived by Ingrid Kerec, was organised by the JSKD dance section at the Španski borci Culture Centre in Ljubljana. The event brought together dancers, dance teachers, doctors and physiotherapists to share their knowledge on healthy dance training, the specifics of dance health and the related medicine.
The JSKD is a member of European Cultural Cooperation (ECuCo) and of the European Network of the Voluntary and Amateur Arts (ENVAA).
