Ukrep - Festival of Dance Perspectives
Programme
The festival contributes to the strategic development of contemporary dance in Slovenia by supporting emerging dance makers. In recent editions, the programme has expanded to include an increasing number of international choreographers and is shaped in collaboration with performing arts and dance venues and organisers across Ljubljana. It is typically curated around a central theme that highlights specific aspects of contemporary dance or reflects on its broader position and role, often encompassing a range of formats and genres. This curatorial approach was reflected in the 2024 edition, also presented in Maribor, which focused on site-specific performative practices, marking the culmination of the international project Rail2Dance, which began in 2022 and featured local and international artists from Austria, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Spain, and South Korea.
The festival also hosts professional classes running throughout the entire festival week.
Ukrep is part of the Late Summer Festivals initiative, a joint platform that creates an alternative cultural map beyond the capital and invites audiences to embark on a summer festival “tour” across Slovenia. It brings together six festivals focused on dance, theatre and film taking place in late summer, including the Na knap Festival of Short Dance Form, Contemporary dance Platform, Front@ Contemporary Dance Festival, Mladi levi Festival, and the FeKK Ljubljana Short Film Festival.
Med-ukrep
As part of Ukrep (in English: Taking Measures), various activities under the title Med-ukrep (Inbetween Measures) take place between individual festival editions. These include lectures, as well as theoretical, dramaturgical, and dance workshops led by theorists, choreographers, and directors, along with individual interdisciplinary projects.
