Established in 2003 by the Literary Association IA, the International Golden Boat Translation Workshop (Zlati čoln) is held in Škocjan in the Karst region each September.

Under the careful eye of programme director Iztok Osojnik, the workshop welcomes translators hailing from different countries who are selected in view of the aims and theme of the event. For seven days the participants not only work on their immediate translations, but also present the results of their work, and discuss the many difficulties and obstacles they have encountered. They also tour to Slovene cities, where readings and talks take place. In addition to translating, the workshop also facilitates meetings between translators and Slovene authors, new collaborations, the promotion of Slovene literature, and forming a network of authors, translators, and publishers. As a direct result of the workshop, translated Slovene texts are published in foreign magazines and by foreign publishing houses. The Festival of Slovene Culture Golden Boat organised by Polica Dubova Cultural and Artistic Association in Poland and the Czech Republic is an offshoot of the workshop.
