Background
Arhitektura, Office for Urbanism and Architecture is a multi-generational architecture firm based in Ljubljana. Founded by Peter Gabrijelčič and his sons Boštjan and Aleš Gabrijelčič, in its work the firm pursues a clear and simply stated goal: making good architecture. It's an approach that eschews pre-defined forms and draws on spatial and historical contexts and that can be applied to a wide range of structures and projects.
Projects
Arhitektura and its partners have made their mark with innovative residential projects: completed in 2012 and 2014 respectively, the Suha House in the vicinity of Škofja Loka and the Black Barn in Cirnik are simultaneously an hommage to and radical reinterpretation of the typical architectural forms of the Slovene rural periphery. Both projects netted their creators the prestigious Golden Pencil Award.
Arhitektura has also garnered considerable acclaim for its unique bridge designs throughout Europe, including the Ribja Brv footbridge over the Ljubljanica River in downtown Ljubljana (2014); a drawbridge in the port of Gdansk, Poland (2016); and the Rafting Bridge in Celje (2016).
The Ada Bridge in Belgrade was completed in 2014. This impressive cable-stayed bridge connects the municipalities of Čukarica and New Belgrade and has quickly become one of the city's most recognisable structures.
Background
Peter Gabrijelčič studied under renowned Slovene architect Edo Ravnikar at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, completing his studies in 1973. He went on to become Dean of the Faculty of Architecture as well as a full professor of urban planning and architecture. Boštjan Gabrijelčič finished his studies at the Faculty of Architecture in 2007, and Aleš completed his studies in 2014. Both architects then acquired considerable experience working abroad, Boštjan in Lichtenstein and at Podrecca atelier in Vienna, and Aleš in South Africa and Madrid.
