Funding
All public state cultural institutions, for instance theatre houses, are required to present their following year's programmes to the Ministry, which then decides on their annual subsidy according to the annual budget. For non-governmental organisations working in the field of performing arts, musical arts, visual arts, architecture and design or new media art, the Creativity Directorate prepares annual calls for public cultural programmes and projects (usually in Autumn). There are also some additional special public calls.
There are special calls for libraries, while funding related to literature and publishing has been performed by the Slovenian Book Agency, while the national cultural programme in the sphere of film is implemented by the Slovenian Film Centre.
International co-operation programme
The directorate supports the Cultural Contact Point Slovenia, the Media Desk Slovenia office and the Balkan Incentive Fund for Culture (BIFC) hub to assist cultural organisations with the information related to European funding (EU Culture Programme, Media Programme, structural funds, European Cultural Foundation BIFC Grant Programme).
The international section of the Directorate implements also annual calls for the Slovene Arts & Culture Residencies Programme for Slovene artists, writers, translators, curators, critics, producers, etc.
In 2011 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture launched a new financial mechanism: a special fund to support cultural events organised by Slovene embassies and consulates round the world.
Other tasks
The directorate is responsible also for the procedures related to scholarships and social instruments (self-employment, recognised and exceptional pensions) in the area of culture. It coordinates the work of the Prešeren Fund Secretariat, which confers annual Prešeren Award and Prešeren Foundation Awards.
As the Creativity Directorate should ensures accessibility to thorough information on the arts in Slovenia, it funds the SIGIC, Slovene Music Information Centre, the Sigledal.org - Slovene theatre portal and the Culture.si portal for international cooperation.
