Organised by the Art Centre - Institute of Youth Culture, Kranj since 2003, the Carniola Festival, Summer in Kranj is an international summer festival of music, theatre and dance. It presents Slovene and international performers of jazz, classical music, opera, street theatre, classical theatre, contemporary dance, and folk dance. Past performances include Laibach (Slovenia), Terrafolk (Slovenia), The Platters (USA), Huerque Mapu (Argentina), Afrikali (Tanzania), Mariachi & Ballet Folclorico Policromia Mexicana (Mexico), Conjunto Artistico Maraguan (Cuba), Vermicelli Orchestra (Russia), Rimpparemmi (Finland), Picikato Brass Band (Macedonia), Etno Histria (Croatia).
Many events are performed in the open air or, in cases of rain, in the Prešeren Theatre Kranj or at Khislstein Castle. As part of the wider Carniola Festival, the Kiselfest Festival offers a programme for children, while the local Kranj Jazz Festival presents domestic conventional jazz groups and some traditionally oriented international artists.
