There are 45 larger cultural institutions that were founded by municipalities but are state financed:
- 10 municipal theatre houses
- 35 municipal/regional museums
The centralised funding assists to ensure common standards in Slovenian regions, however the Local governments are responsible for the operation of these cultural institutions of broader importance and appoint directors to their respective councils.
