Programme
Up to 2009 Etnika hosted several groups, all of whom performed in Slovenia for the first time: Poum Tchack (France), Pressburger Klezmer Band (Slovakia), Arasinda (Hungary); (in 2006); Banjara - The Gypsies of Radjastan (India), Eszter Biro (Hungary) and Montevideo (Uruguay, Chile, USA, Croatia, Austria) (2007); and Karandila Gypsy Brass Orchestra (Bulgaria), Stepanida Borisova & Ramesh Shotham (Sibiria, India) and Bose/Ghosh/Mallick Trio (India). In 2009 the programme also included 3 groups from Slovenia which play the world music genre: Burkina & Guinea Project, Zdenek Bily Dixieland Band, and Cana Flamenca. In 2010 it featured 3 European premières: singers Huong Thanh from Vietnam and Zohreh Jooya from Iran, as well as the Algerian dilruba master Mahamad Hadi, a.k.a. Mad Sheer Khan.
Etnika Festival is included in the official programme of the Maribor, European Capital of Culture 2012.
