Established in 1994 by the dancer and choreographer Branko Potočan, Fourklor is a physical theatre group, which has created a number of resounding performances marked with immediacy of physicality, fresh humour, recognisable dramaturgy, and a skilful use of stage props. In its latest productions, Fourklor increasingly approaches the genre of contemporary circus.

Performances

Fourklor has thus far produced over a dozen physical theatre performances. The company's debut was Who Drew a Ski Jump for Mr. Stanko (1994), which was also performed in Prague, Hamburg, and Leipzig. Its next performance Do I Dream the Memory or Do I Remember the Dream [Sanjam spomin, a se spominjam sanj] (1996) received an award at Infant Festival, Serbia, while Potočan received the Golden Bird Award for this production. The performance Melancholic Thoughts [Melanholične misli] (1998), featuring an all-male cast, received a jury prize at the Sarajevo MESS. In 2005, Fourklor premièred an extremely successful work Rusty Trumpets [Zarjavele trobente], produced by Vitkar Institute and Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre, which received the Audience Award at the Gibanica (Moving Cake) Festival of Slovene Dance. The 2008 performance What the Dickens [Glej ga zlomka] features several year long collaborators of Fourklor, such as Dušan Teropšič, Jana Menger, Sebastijan Starič, Leja Jurišič.

Fourklor performances, as well as Branko Potočan's solo projects (e.g. Pedestrian Zone [Cona za pešce] (2004), O Solo Mio (2008) are produced by Vitkar Institute and often presented at Stara Elektrarna - Old Power Station. Potočan often collaborates as a dancer, choreographer, or movement adviser with the physical theatre group Betontanc. Prior to founding Fourklor, Potočan danced for two-and-a-half years in the Belgium-based company Ultima Vez, led by Wim Vandekeybus.

International festivals

Fourklor's performances have appeared at a number of home and international dance and theatre festivals, among others at international theatre festivals MOT, Macedonia; MESS, Bosnia and Herzegovina: BITEF, Serbia; Homo Alibi Festival, Latvia; Man In Fest Festival, Romania; as well as in a number of theatres across Europe.
