The Puppetry Creators Institute (ULU) was established in 2001 by a group of puppetry organisations (Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, Jože Pengov Puppet Theatre and the Association of Puppeteers). ULU stimulates the development of puppetry in Slovenia through presentations and educational activities and fosters international cooperation. In 2001 it launched the Slovene Puppetry Biennial.

The current membership of the ULU comprises 22 puppetry creators, that is, puppetry ensembles, puppet theatres, puppetry groups, and individual puppeteers, among others Silvan Omerzu (Konj Puppet Theatre), Katja Povše (Miss Bazilika Narrative Theatre), Matija Solce (Teatro matita), and Petra Stare and Andrej Štular (Nebo Puppet Theatre), etc.

Theatre education in schools

The Puppetry Creators Institute (ULU) also engages in the national education programme. It has established a catalogue of high quality theatre and puppet performances for different age groups with a special emphasis on interactivity. The main goal is to introduce performing arts to youngsters and to actively involve them in the creative process.
