Open House Slovenia Festival was launched in 2010 when it opened outstanding buildings for general public. Since then the festival showcases every year a new selection of various types of buildings round Slovenia, from educational or cultural institutions to business, sports, tourism or health facilities, private houses, and open spaces.
Organised tours are guided by architects or building owners or users. Thus the latest innovative solutions of the new architectural projects are featured alongside successful adaptations of historical buildings. Every year more than 250 architects, owners, event organizers and 50 volunteers participate in the event. All the events are free. For private houses, visits need to be prebooked via the website.
The festival as well as other activities of the Open House Slovenia are organized by a non-profit organization Afront, which was assigned the highest Slovene architectural prize, Plečnik medal for the project.
