Goga Publishing House was established in December 1998 by the Students' Society of Novo Mesto (DNŠ) and it published its first book in January 2000. Goga is involved in a wide spectrum of activities, from publishing Slovene and foreign works, music CDs, and journals to organising different cultural events and literary workshops. In 2000 it opened the Goga Bookstore, a popular venue for musical, cultural, literary, and other events in Novo mesto.

Goga is also a part of HALMA, a unique network of European literary institutions which helps to connect European cultural and literary scenes through exchanges and residencies of European writers, translators, and literary promoters.

Publishing programme

Goga's literature publishing programme aims to give new perspectives on local literature, as well as on work in translation. Goga is interested in first-class literature related to current topics. The first publication in line was the Anton Podbevšek 100 Supernatural Years, a book on a Slovene avant-garde poet and a participant of the Novo Mesto Spring [Novomeška pomlad] movement in the 1920s that marked the beginning of Slovene modernism.

Since 2003 Goga Publishing House has published the Anagoga edition, which features monograph publications (e.g. Latin Literature by Pierre Grimal). Edition Lunapark established in 2007 specialises in children's and youth literature.

Rast, a quarterly review for literature, culture and social issues, is published by Goga in collaboration with the Municipality of Novo mesto.

Goga also publishes audio CDs in its music collection GOGA Musica. Since its first CDs (Novo mesto 77-97 and Žabjak trio) numerous jazz, ethno, folk, and other genres followed.
