The International Design Event is a broad high-profile cultural event with the most prominent international visual communications designers showing their work at an exhibition and giving free lectures. Organised by the Brumen Foundation it coincides with the Biennial of Slovene Visual Communications to allow direct comparisons of standards and achievements between Slovene and international design. The guest designers of the 4th International Design Event held in October 2009 – and thus also the jury members of the 4th Biennial of Slovene Visual Communications who granted that year's Brumen Award – were Peter Bilak, Andrzej Klimowski, Mark Porter, and Alan Záruba.

Background

The first Design Event was organised in November 2003 at the National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana and presented the works of Bo Linnemann, Bruno Monguzzi, Jean-Françoise Porchez, Rick Poyner, and Wieczyslaw Wasilewski. The international jurors from the 2nd and 3rd Biennials were Anna Berkenbusch, Max Bruinsma, Erik Spiekermann, Aleš Najbrt, and Piotrek Mlodozeniec (2005) and Pierre Bernard, William Drenttel, Jessica Helfand, and Cyprian Kościelniak (2007).
