Background
Architects Katarina Pirkmajer and Miha Dešman previously worked at the studio Atelje Dešman-Pirkmajer. Both studied at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana under Professor Marjan Mušič before undertaking additional studies at the Institute for Urbanism and Architecture in Venice. They are members of the DESSA Architecture Centre and also work as independent architects.
Miha Dešman also works in graphic design (book design) and writes about architecture in his capacity as editor-in-chief of the magazine Architects' Bulletin (ab). He is actively engaged in the work of the Architects' Society of Ljubljana (DAL) and the Union of Slovene Architects' Societies.
Awards
In 2013, DANS Arhitekti received the first National Award for Best Wooden Construction for their design for a bicycle bridge over the Sava River in Bohinjska Bistrica. In the same year, their design for the NMII House, a private residence in Ljubljana, was awarded the Golden Pencil Award. The studio was nominated for the Plečnik Award in 2010 for its work on the Hospic centre for the palliative care.
