The society laid the foundation for the establishment of the Science and Research Centre of Koper (SRC Koper) later in 1994 and consequently also for the University of Primorska in 2003. It cooperates with the Union of Historical Societies of Slovenia and with other affiliated associations in Slovenia and abroad. Its president from its beginnings onward is Salvator Žitko, also the former head of the Koper Regional Museum.
