Snežnik Castle Museum

Snežnik Castle, being the only Slovene Castle with genuine furnished interiors, came under the administration of the National Museum of Slovenia after its restoration in 2008.

The earliest record of Snežnik Castle dates from 1269 when it was owned by the patriarchs of Aquileia. The castle lies on a strategic site, on the edge of the Lož Valley under the Snežnik mountains surrounded by a beautiful park and vast forests with diverse and rich flora and fauna including big game ranging from bears, boars, wolves and lynxes, to wild fowl and deer, and was always favourite hunting residence. Throughout the centuries the castle has changed owners many times, but in 1853 the castle and associated forests of Snežnik were bought by German Prince Otto Viktor Schönburg-Waldenburg, who gave it to his third son Georg. Thereafter it remained in the Schönburg-Waldenburg family until 1945. The last caretaker Leon Schauta saved Snežnik Castle from destruction after the Second World War by keeping good relations with the locals before and after the war. Restoration began in the 1960s and the castle opened to the public in 1970/71. In 1983 two additional exhibition rooms were opened. After a restoration completed in 2008, the romantic state-owned castle came under the administration of the National Museum of Slovenia and is the only Slovene Castle with genuine furnished interiors.

Since 2014 the Floating Castle Festival has embedded into the picturesque surroundings of the castle the late summer "folk-puppet-music-theatre site-specific event".

The brand's most recognisable motif and also its official logo designed by LUKS Studio represents the company's motto: "Unpredictably elegant + unexpectedly functional".

Radovljica Festival

Launched in 1982, Radovljica Festival is the oldest early music festival in Slovenia. It regularly features internationally-renowned singers and instrumentalists, performing on period instruments and ensembles, such as Sequentia, Gothic Voices, Trio Mediaeval, the Rolf Lislevand Ensemble, Café Zimmermann, Sonatori della Gioiosa Marca, London Baroque and Ensemble Zefiro.

The 2011 edition of the festival presented a literary-music evening The Saga of Hallgerd by Svetlana Makarovič and Milko Lazar and international groups Die Singphoniker, Black Narcissus, , Zefiro, Sequentia, Lisa Rydberg and Gunnar Idenstam, James Bowman and Andrew Plant at the Radovljica Manor, while Yves Rechsteiner in Henri-Charles Caget interpreted the Jean-Philippe Rameau's arias and dance music at the Velesovo Church. A one-day vocal workshop was led by Ian Honeyman, an English tenor (also actor and pianist).

Simulaker Gallery

Inside of Simulaker Gallery in Novo mesto

Established in 2006 as a non-profit space, the Simulaker Gallery has grown into the most important space for presentations of contemporary art practices in the southeast region of Slovenia. Located in the old town centre of Novo mesto in a 160-square-metre renovated stable for horses, the programme was initially run by curator Iztok Hotko. In spring 2009 the gallery initiated an annual project entitled The First Chance, presenting artworks of art students from art departments round Slovenia or internationally.

The gallery collaborates also with the local branch of the Union of Slovene Fine Arts Associations and Fotopub Festival of Documentary Photography.

Španski borci Culture Centre

Španski borci Culture Centre re-opened in November 2009 in the Ljubljana-Moste neighbourhood of the city. Run by En-Knap Productions, the centre represents the largest facility intended for cultural activities in Slovenia managed by a non-governmental organisation. Providing a much-needed performing space in Ljubljana as well as two rehearsal spaces, the centre's programme focuses on stage arts, however, it also cover the areas of music, visual arts, literature, and offers a children's programme. The centre also includes a reading room, mediatheque, coffee shop and gallery.

As the permanent residence of the EnKnapGroup (EKG) and one of the venues of the Gibanica (Moving Cake) Festival of Slovene Dance, the Španski borci Culture Centre has been slated since June 2011 to become the seat of the new Centre of Contemporary Dance, according to the agreement signed by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Ljubljana.

Alkatraz Gallery

Alkatraz Gallery, established in 1996 as an artist run space, located in Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Zone, Ljubljana

Situated in Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Centre and run by KUD Mreža Arts and Culture Association, Alkatraz Gallery started out in 1996 as a project initiated by young students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Since then, it has been actively encouraging experimental artistic endeavours, hosting various interactive, exploratory and site specific projects that apply very different approaches. Nevertheless, it sometimes also displays works that creatively use traditional media.

Its main goal and programme policy is to present fresh, yet unestablished artists and artworks to the public, thus mainly featuring projects of younger artists. In recent years, the gallery is actively visiting international art fairs, presenting its curated projects and working on international collaborations. Since 2010 it is participating in the Artyčok.TV, an open archive project led by the DigiLab of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and supported by the EU Culture programme, thus contributing to one of the largest archives covering the independent arts scene.

Cerkno Museum

The Cerkno Museum was established by Idrija Municipal Museum in 1978 as a branch museum about the NOB (National Liberation Struggle). The institution studies the rich heritage of the Cerkno region in an integral way

In 2006, on the 50th anniversary of the revival of the Cerkljanska Laufarija, a new permanent exhibition entitled Pust is to Blame! - A Story about the Cerkno Laufarija was put on display. The Cerkno laufarji are among the most famous carnival figures in Slovenia, whose wooden masks called larfa are cut from the wood of the linden tree.

Velenje Castle

Velenje Castle

Velenje Castle was a strategically important fortress first mentioned in 1270 from which, together with the neighbouring castles of Šalek and Ekenštajn, various owners in the middle ages controlled the routes from the Celjska kotlina basin to Carinthia.

Today the castle houses the Velenje Museum, established in 1957 as the Museum of Slovene Coalmines. The Velenje Museum gives the castle its full functionality filling the premises with numerous exhibitions. The castle is also a popular venue for various cultural and music events organised by the Velenje Library.

International Centre of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana

The International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC) is located in Tivoli Mansion, Ljubljana.

Established in 1986, the International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC) is housed in Tivoli Mansion. It runs the Biennial of Graphic Arts, maintains an international collection of prints and artists' books, and organises personal and thematic contemporary art exhibitions, often reflecting the political or social atmospheres of the chosen periods.

Founded in 1955, the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts is the world's oldest existing biennial exhibition of contemporary graphic arts. MGLC is among the founding members of the International Biennial Association (IBA), established in 2014. As of 2017, MGLC also runs the Švicarija Art Centre, a nearby residency and exhibition venue, also located in Tivoli Park.
