Predjama Castle

Predjama Castle, annual medieval tournament, 2006

One of the most picturesque castles in Slovenia, Predjama Castle is built into an overhanging rock in front of a karst cave hall that is connected with a cave system underneath the castle. It is situated just a a few kilometres from the entrance to the Postojna Cave. The castle is now a museum on five floors that shows the life in the 16th century, with an armoury, dungeon, halls, living quarters and other castle facilities. Interesting is the dialogue between man-made architecture and natural structures that combine into the castle's fortification system.

Vertigo Bird works in close cooperation with various national and international design companies and individual designers, Bevk Perović Arhitekti, SADAR + VUGA Architects and Nika Zupanc among them.

The brand's most recognisable motif and also its official logo designed by LUKS Studio represents the company's motto: "Unpredictably elegant + unexpectedly functional".

Film

Festival of Slovenian Film

The Festival of Slovenian Film (Festival slovenskega filma or FSF) is classified as a national film festival as it offers an annual review of domestic film and television production. It is organised by the Slovenian Film Centre and it is staged annually in September or October, the length varies according to annual film production (usually for 4 to 5 days), at the Portorož Auditorium in the seaside resort of Portorož. It was established in 1991 as the Slovene Film Marathon but its roots go back to 1973 when the Slovene Film Week was organised for the first time in Celje. The main festival award is the Vesna Award.

As a result of the epidemic, the FSF 2020 edition is going to take place in October in Ljubljana.

Portorož Auditorium hosts several festivals, including Festival of Slovenian Film, 2018.

Days of Poetry and Wine Festival

The Days of Poetry and Wine Festival is a festival that hosts the younger generation of poets from all over the world. Up to 2009 it took place in Medana (a village in Goriška Brda next to the Italian border) during the last week in August, basically turning the village into the poetry capital of Europe for a week. In 2010 the 14th edition of the festival moves to Ptuj, a historical town of Roman origin in eastern Slovenia, one of regional partner cities of Maribor, European Capital of Culture 2012. Since then the festival takes place in Ptuj. It is run by Beletrina Publishing Institute.

Sports Park Stožice

The Sports Park Stožice is the largest commercial entertainment venue in Slovenia, designed by Sadar-Vuga Arhitekti and built in 2010. The complex on the outskirts of Ljubljana comprises Stožice Stadium and Arena Stožice hall as well as a shopping centre.

Arena Stožice

The Arena Stožice multi-purpose hall can host 12,480 sports fans or 14,480 visitors for concerts or other performing arts events. The hall that covers 14,164 m2 is intended for indoor sports and is home to various national sports teams such as KK Olimpija, RK Mercator Krim, ACH Volley Bled. In the lower parts of the Stožice Hall there is also a smaller warm-up hall and a climbing center. The first concerts in the Arena Stožice were given by José Carreras, Leonard Cohen, Joe Cocker, Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra, in 2011 by Zucchero, The Chemical Brothers and Sting, the latter within the concert tour Symphonicity, which was in Ljubljana accompanied by the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sarah Hicks.

Stožice Stadium

The Stožice Stadium, however, can hold 16,038 spectators for sports events and 23,000 for music concerts. The total area of ​​the stadium is 24,614 m2. Stožice Stadium is also the home stadium of the NK Olimpija football club and the Slovenian national football team. The first music event at the Stadium Stožice was performed by Siddharta in June 2011.

The Institute for Sonic Arts Research (IRZU) was established in 2008 by Miha Ciglar, an audio engineer and sound artist working at the intersection of art and technology. IRZU is based on an interdisciplinary concept and produces works in the field of electro-acoustic music/inter-media performances and installations and conducts audio technology research and educational activities. Since 2009 it also organises the annual EarZoom Sonic Arts Festival.

The Mladi levi Festival (in English: Young Lions Festival) is an annual international festival of contemporary performing arts, organized by the Bunker Institute. It presents original approaches to theatre and dance, focusing on talented and emerging stage performers, along with presenting already established progressive authors. It takes place every end of the summer and was initiated in 1998 under the auspices of the international network Junge Hunde.

The festival has a distinctive atmosphere marked by creativity, vibrancy, and a social nature. It is an interdisciplinary place of exchange and cooperation, extending beyond the habitual local or international concepts.

Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture

Kino Šiška is one of the main cultural centres in Ljubljana. Established in 2009, it is a highly industrious institution in terms of artistic scope, dealing with music, film, visual and new media art, theatre, and contemporary dance as well as with various other cultural endeavours. However, its main trade is that of music concerts, with the acts ranging from indie rock and alternative pop to experimental electronica and old school heavy metal.

Besides its 300 or so events per year, Kino Šiška also runs various programmes for finding and supporting upcoming artists, does international promotion for Slovene artists, runs a visual arts sales gallery DobraVaga, and collaborates with the local community.

2 Reels - Association for Reanimation of Storytelling

The 2 Reels - Association for Reanimation of Storytelling was born in 2007 out of the wish to cultivate and to promote storytelling in all its forms. It brings together two spheres of activity bound by their mutual aim to cultivate the telling of stories: Animateka International Animated Film Festival and the Radio Student programme Za 2 groša fantazije ("A Twopence of Imagination"). A significant part of the association's activities is dedicated to educational programmes for adults and children, as stories – be they in the form of film, written word, sound recording or live storytelling – should come to life and live on among people.

National Gallery of Slovenia

The National Gallery of Slovenia (Narodna galerija) is the main art museum in Slovenia that holds the country's largest fine art collection from the late medieval period up to the early twentieth century. It was founded as early as 1918 as the National Gallery Society with the aim of establishing a museum for Slovenian fine arts. First housed in the Kresija Palace, the Gallery relocated to the Narodni dom palace in 1926.

A completely reorganised and expanded permanent exhibition of the collections returned to public view in January 2016, following an extensive renovation of the Narodni dom palace.
