EnKnapGroup (EKG), the first professional contemporary dance group in Slovenia, was established in 2007. EKG is the only permanent ensemble for contemporary dance in Slovenia with a repertory programme of established Slovene and foreign authors. EnKnapGroup's work is dedicated to collaborations with innovative, creative authors and production practices and articulations of new approaches to contemporary dance. Bringing together five choreographers and directors, namely László Hudi, Edward Clug, Iztok Kovač, Snježana Abramović - Milković, and Matjaž Berger, the EKG performance 10 Min East highlighted the mentioned attempts of the group.

Since 2009, the group has its permanent rehearsal spaces at the Španski borci Culture Centre, where they also present their newest works. Prior to that, the group frequently appeared at the venue Old Power Station and occasionally at Cankarjev dom.

Performances and artists

The newly established group was formed via two auditions in 2007 and 2010. The group premièred with a performance Celebration [Praznovanje] in September 2007, which was co-created by long-term collaborators of En-Knap: choreographer and dancer Andreja Rauch, film director Sašo Podgoršek, and En-Knap founder and choreographer Iztok Kovač.

With its subsequent productions, EnKnapGroup continued to develop and articulate different stage genres and poetics, which resulted in interesting collaborations with different performing arts authors. Thus in 2007, EKG presented the piece In-Between [Nekje vmes] by Simone Sandroni and Lenka Flory, established choreographers and directors of Deja Donne dance company, and in 2008, the performance Decision [Ukrep] by the Slovene director Sebastijan Horvat, based on the once "forbidden text" of the same title by Bertolt Brecht. The group's other performances include Order [Ukaz] (2008) by the renowned Slovene choreographer Matjaž Farič; My Kingdom for a Horse [Kraljestvo za konja] (2008) by Iztok Kovač; the site-specific project Romeo and Public [Romeo in publika] (2008) by Mala Kline and the director Tomi Janežič, featuring guest performers, which tackles theatre's conventions and foregrounds the relationship between performer and the public; Raw [Surovo] (2009) by Claudia de Serpa Soares; and Cut Out [Črtano] (2009) by the theatre director Bojan Jablanovec of Via Negativa.
