The core members of Mono O all have a history in the film industry. For example, before she started creating her own works, the writer and director [[Sonja Prosenc]] has been working on a number of other productions, acting as an assistant director and lighting designer and - together with another Mono O member [[Mitja Ličen]] - also doing set photography and graphic design for films by the then already renowned directors like [[Jan Cvitkovič]] and [[Janez Burger]] of the [[Staragara]] production.

With Mono O being set up, this cooperation has evolved into a co-production with a documentary portrait of the painter [[Janez Tisnikar]], titled ''Mož s krokarjem'' [Man with a Raven] and filmed by Sonja Prosenc as the director and Mitja Ličen as the cinematographer (and both of them writers). This tandem set up  has become a template for other productions by Mono O and their next work - co-produced with [[A Atalanta]] - was the short film ''Jutro'' [Morning], for which the music was recorded by the prolific duo [[Silence]]. ''Drevo'' [The Tree] was also one of the projects that they've started working on back in 2011. The script and the movie had been further developed at EAVE Producer's Workshop and the Baltic Event Co-production Market in 2012 and when it came out in 2014, the movie has met with enthusiastic critical acclaim, gathered a number of awards (four of them at the [[Festival of Slovenian Film]]) and nominations and been screened at numerous festivals. It had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary Festival, and has than later been screened at - to mnetion just a few - the Cairo International Film Festival, Film By The Sea International Film Festival, Black Nights Film Festival Tallin, Mumbai Film Festival, Kerala International Film Festival, International Film Festival of Thrissur, Noordelijk Film festival, Film Festival Nilambur, Byron Bay International Film Festival, Cannes Marche du film, Panorama Europe Film Festival New York, etc.

Though formally established before that date, the story of Mono O production company roughly dates to 2011. At that time, the small crew of Mono O started working on various productions that have in the following years turned out rather well. Be it a documentary, short film or an art movie, they've all gotten them ample critical praise and furtermore also a successful festival run.
