The Slovene Association of Literary Translators was founded in 1953 as a professional union engaged in maintaining a high level of translation work and contacts among translators. The association organises literary and debate evenings, publication presentations, professional meetings, lectures, and conferences. It strives to stimulate international academic exchanges involving translators, and collaborates with other cultural, educational and professional organisations and institutions in Slovenia and abroad. Its publishing activities comprise numerous publications on translation, such as Hieronymus – Journal for Translation.

The Slovene Association of Literary Translators is a member of the Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires (CEATL).
