Ukrep - Festival of Dance Perspectives
Archival article
Launched in 2008 by Dance Theatre Ljubljana, the biennial Ukrep - Festival of Dance Perspectives attempts to redefine the emancipatory potential of contemporary dance and performing arts practices. The festival presents emerging dance makers and organises discussions and theoretical/dramaturgy workshops. As part of Ukrep (in English: Taking Measures), a number of other activities (called Med-ukrep, in English: Inbetween Measures) are organised between individual editions of the festival, which include lectures by different philosophers, theoreticians, and directors as well as individual interdisciplinary projects.
Last, but not least, the Ukrep Festival has spurred the local integration processes in the Prule area.
The festival focuses on the presentation of emerging dance makers and aims for a strategic development of contemporary dance in Slovenia. Thus far the festival has presented the work of Milan Tomašik, Irena Tomažin, Urška Vohar, Leja Jurišič, Samo Gosarič, etc. The festival closely collaborates with the Seminar of Contemporary Performing Arts, organised by Maska Institute. The 2010 edition featured a number of lectures/reflections on dramaturgy from different theoreticians and other makers, such as Janez Janša, Jeroen Peeters, and Una Bauer.
