The Puppetry Artists Institution of Slovenia was established in 2001 by a group of puppetry organisations (Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, Jože Pengov Puppet Theatre and the Association of Puppeteers). ULU (Ustanova lutkovnih ustvarjalcev) stimulates the development of puppetry in Slovenia through presentations and educational activities and fosters international cooperation. In 2001 it launched the Slovene Puppetry Biennial.


Members

The current membership of the Puppetry Artists Institution of Slovenia comprises over 20 puppetry creators, that is, puppetry ensembles, puppet theatres puppetry groups or individuals: the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and Maribor Puppet Theatre, Fru Fru Puppet Theatre, The House of Children and Arts, Konj Puppet Theatre, Puppet Theatre Zajec, Zapik Theatre, the Association of Puppeteers (Labirint Theatre, Lalanit Theatre, Miss Bazilika Narrative Theatre, Uš Puppet Theatre Company, Življenje na nitki Theatre), The Right-Hand Pocket Theatre (all located in Ljubljana), then KUD Theatre for All (Koroška Bela), Puppets Across the Street (Kranj), Kranj Puppet Theatre, Puppet Theatre Three (Kranj), Corn Seed Association, K Zrnovič Puppet Theatre (Slovenska Bistrica), Nebo Puppet Theatre (Kranj), Pupilla Puppet Theatre (Lendava), Lutkarnica (Koper), Teatro Matita, Papelito Puppet Theatre (Ankaran), and Christian Cultural Union / Christlicher Kulturverband (Celovec). Also some individuals are actively involved in the ULU: a puppeteer Cveto Sever (Selca) and a puppetry theoretician Amelija Kraigher.


Theatre education in schools

The Puppetry Artists Institution of Slovenia (ULU) also engages in the national education programme. It has established a catalogue of high quality theatre and puppet performances for different age groups with a special emphasis on interactivity. The main goal is to introduce performing arts to youngsters and to actively involve them in the creative process.
